How to Become a Woman in Business
Many people who want to start a business already have a pretty good idea what they want to do. On the other hand, there are many others who have the desire to start a self-employed business without knowing exactly what type of business to go into.
The first thing you must determine is what interests you. Do you have a hobby or passion that you truly enjoy doing? Small business experts agree that a person will do best in a business that he or she loves. It often takes some time to establish a new business, and nothing will help you get through the initial start-up phase more than enjoying what you do — even if you’re not being paid quite as much as you would like at the start.
Survey your family and friends. They will, often times, be your best (and sometimes worst) critics. If you’re into jewelry making, for example, host a few parties for people you know and get their reactions. That will help you gage if you’re on the right track or not. The next part of the equation is your education but it can certainly help you in your own business. For example, I have a degree in Journalism. I always knew I wanted to be a journalist because I love communicating with people. Now that I have my own media consulting business I still find my journalism degree to be of value. I am still communicating with people. As a business owner, I am now doing it on many different levels.
Networking is extremely important. You have to get out and talk to people. I also believe networking online is as equally important. Identify and find groups you are interested in targeting. Ask questions and find out what types of businesses have been successful for the target market you’re trying to reach.
