Is Gray the New Power Color for Women?

I recently read a rather interesting article about gray becoming the new and attractive hair color for baby boomer women and beyond. The article is called The Silver Tsunami: Is Gray the New Power Hair Color For Women? It can be found on the Women on the Web Website.

Now that actress Jamie Lee Curtis, singer EmmyLou Harris and other notable baby boomer women women have come out and shown off their gray hair, it appears to be more like a fashion statement. Some are even calling it the Power-Gray head of hair.

Tell me if I’m wrong, but it wasn’t that long ago that women were going to great lengths to dye their hair so no one would be the wiser of their age. Gray hair for actresses in Hollywood is like the kiss of death—unless they’re planning a grandma-type role. But do you think Jamie Lee wants to be typecast into that type of role?

Yes, Meryl Streep did sport a silver short hair cut in the movie The Devil Wears Prada. And yes, it did look good. But no, she wasn’t playing a grandmother’s role. She was a power baby boomer babe whose hair gave her a definite look of distinction.

The article also says if you’re going to go gray you have to do it with style. That means you have to have a stylish-looking haircut. The cut makes gray hair less of a symbol of aging and more one of confidence and power.

So what do you think? Should we go ahead and put Clairol out of business?
