Meet Featured Diva Heidi Caswell

What is the name of your business and a description of what you do?

I’m currently doing business under my name, Heidi Caswell, as a wordpress/technology consultant.  I build WordPress sites, mentor business owners on using WordPress, teach how to send beautiful cards to your friends and clients, which they can hold in their hands, from your computer.  I also have my own websites  where I freely share the things I’ve learned.

How much has your business direction changed in the past five years and why?

More streamlined, focused as to what projects I will work on, faster ways to do such, and which projects I’d rather refer to others.  Still online, and loving it.

One thing you’ll see more of is expanding my own websites and limiting the number of WordPress clients.  One major project I’m in the middle of is a WordPress tutorial site which you can find at  WordPress 101 for Boomers, I’m working on it first as a gift to anyone who wants to do business online,
have their own website, but limited on money.   For those who are limited on time, they can still pay me to set up their site and teach them how to run it.

What advice do you have for women who are trying to grow their businesses?

Don’t be afraid to use technology, jump right in, once I didn’t know any of this stuff either. Use the internet, have your own website which you own, with your own domain name.  Use social media as a tool to connect with others.

Design your business around your client’s needs instead of your ego. When you become a trusted resource, when your clients know they can depend on you, they’ll naturally help spread the work.  Yes, you still need to promote yourself, but it makes your life much easier.

What do you know now that you wished you knew 10 years ago as it relates to business?

10 years ago I was hesitant to express my opinion online.  After all, what did I know? I didn’t know how to create my on online presence and wished there was an easy way to make my own website.  I had no idea what was involved or even if possible.  Harder then because the tools weren’t in place that we have today.  More confidence.   To be more organized, to systems in place.  Routines.
