Meet Featured Diva Heidi Richards Mooney

Tell us about what it is you do.

In addition to running an online organanization for women in ecommerce, I am an author, business coach and consider myself  a serial entrepreneur having owned several businesses over the past 30 years including 3retail florists, a child care center, a bar, 3 restaurants an apartment complex and several rental properties. I currently run my floral and event planning company as well as have several clients whom I coach on eCommerce and Social Media Marketing.  At Eden Florist.com we specialize in corporate and nonprofit event planning and execution.  And my new business model is using independent contractors for all our design and delivery of same. As a social media entrpreneur, I host virtual events, publicizing them on various social networking sites and thorugh email marketing efforts.

What advice do you have for someone who is interested in following a similar business path?

DON’T DO IT! All kidding aside, I have always had the need to work on multiple projects at one time probably the result of my adult onset ADD – I like to now refer to it as Amazing Divine Destiny and of course my creative, hyperactive nature and passion for new experiences.  If you get bored easily, doing one thing at a time, then you’ll probably be really good at multi-tasking jobs. Of course, I didn’t have all these jobs at once, it wasn’t until about seven years ago when I discovered the power of the web (along with the millions of other users at the time) that I yearned to run my flower shops AND learn how the World Wide Web works.  My suggestion is that if this sounds like your story, then surround yourself with people who know more than you, that you can learn from and then when you become experienced enough share your wisdom with others who seek it.  I have been so fortunate to have mentors and be involved in masterminds and surrounded by amazing, giving men and women who were and still are willing to lend a hand when I need it (and vice-versa).

What, in your opinion, does it take to be successful at what you do?

To be successful, it takes passion, commitment and knowing “where you want to end up.”  Goals are so important. I see small business owners flounder because they may have day to day or even week to week and month to month goals, but the real key to success is long-range planning and implementation. That and finding a team of people who have expertise you lack to help you reach those goals.

What, in your opinion, is the main reason people fail in their business endeavors?

The opposite of what I think it takes to be successful: Lack of commitment and no real goals as I mentioned above. And another key factor in not succeeding is not believing in yourself.

What do you want the person reading this to know about you?

That I love life, people and new experiences and am always willing to share my knowledge with others. I learned early on that my purpose was to seek, learn and pass it on. As I believe it is all of ours. That and to serve.  In my humble opinion, it is serving others that is really every human being’s divine purpose.
